FAQ What exactly is an Urgent Care Little things, like a skinned knee, can be treated at home. Life-threatening conditions, like chest pains, require a trip to the ER. For everything in between, there's urgent care. Urgent care provides treatment for things like the flu, asthma attacks, broken bones, cuts requiring stitches and more. Urgent care centers fill the void between an ER and a doctor's office, with all appropriate medical services provided. At Barrington Urgent Care, we offer our own unique version of urgent care. Staffed by a full medical team, including a physician who is always on-site, we are open 7 days a week to treat injuries and illnesses for all ages. We treat you with care, compassion and consideration of your valuable time. Urgent care is not meant to replace visits to your primary care physician or necessary trips to the ER. Rather, we are here to complement those options, with fast, expert care for most injuries and illnesses. Barrington Urgent Care's robust service offerings allow it to bridge the gap between true emergency care and preventative primary care; as a result, patients are provided with a one-stop option for unscheduled, time-sensitive urgent care by a full medical team led by a physician. Should I use the urgent care instead of my family doctor? The urgent care center is a great option if you have an urgent medical condition that you feel needs immediate attention at that time. If your family doctor is neither available nor equipped to handle the situation, urgent care might be a suitable alternative. With the majority of the urgent care doctors having extensive emergency room experience, urgent care centers work closely with patients to ensure that all appropriate records are transferred to local family physician. How does urgent care differ from the emergency room? There are several main differences between urgent care centers and the emergency room. Emergency rooms are staffed 24 hours a day and are designed to treat patients suffering from life threatening injuries or serious illnesses. In contrast, urgent care centers are designed to lighten the load on local emergency rooms by treating non-life threatening injuries (lacerations, mild fractures, etc.) and illnesses (earaches, influenza, rashes, etc.) in a patient friendly environment. When should I utilize an urgent care treatment center? The urgent care centers should be used for any non-life threatening medical illness or injury that you deem urgent. It is best to receive direct attention rather than waiting hours, days or weeks to be seen. Since most urgent care centers have extended evening hours beyond those of family doctors, they are excellent options for late day, evening and weekend medical problems. Will my medical insurance be accepted? Most major urgent care centers are contracted with a variety of insurance companies. Often, co-pays are higher than that of a family physicians office due to the accessibility. However, urgent care centers generally have lower co-pays than that of an emergency room.
